I've never heard any post-Danzig Misfits and they might have made some good music, but the very idea that anything without Danzig could be The Misfits is ridiculous.

The Graves era sounds close to Walk Among Us imo.

That actually piques my interest. Any songs or records you would recommend that I might be able to check out on YouTube?

Is there a way to get the original singles in one package? The Collections seem to have bits and pieces, but not all of it. The box seems to have sessions, but not necessarily the singles as they were released.

Are they organized by single, or am I going to have to put together a spreadsheet based on the Misfits Central discogrpahy? Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, or anything, I'm just lazy. I like everything the Glenn-fronted Misfits ever recorded, but feel like I only really need the official releases during their original run on my phone/iPod.

I have to admit, I liked "Famous Monsters" more than "American Psycho." after Graves left, I couldn't follow 'em anymore. I vowed I would never watch Jerry sing again and a friend kept urging me to go see 'em again. so I told him I'd never pay to go see 'em again. I ended up going because he bought my ticket

I'd rather go see PLAN 9 than the current MISIFTS

I agree with this as well. I was pretty surprised when American Psycho came out. They were pretty fun live during that era as well. Still not the same as with Danzig fronting.

Talented musicians? No, but how does that matter in punk rock? Better songwriters? Absolutely. Acutally, that should be "better songwriter" singular, since it was all Danzig on the best stuff.

Some of you oldsters might remember this...

Back in the day the Misfits were considered an out of tune joke live. Fun to watch terrible to
listen to. Dumb jocks trying to be Kiss/Alice Cooper band with stolen Ramones riffs.
I know this cuz I caught shit all the time for liking them and heard them all. I even
called some local Phoenix punks and asked if I should drive the 400 miles round trip to see them.
I was answered with "If you don't mind having your ears tortured". I opted for Social Distortion
instead.

In 1983 that would've been a good call

Let's pretend the thread title is "Best Damned-influenced U.S. punk band"

TSOL wins!

TSOL is 10 times better.

The Jack led TSOL of course...
not the Joe Wood mistake.
Joe Wood TSOL is like the Jerry Only Misfits

They never relied on one person for songwriting, kicked serious ass live
and put out at least 5 good LP's and never got co-opted by a remedial intelligence metal scene.
Granted they were droogs but at least they lived what they wrote.
Danzig lived in his mom's basement and played out twice a year
and never once hacked the head off of someone.
He would need a chair.

I loved Kiss and I loved the Misfits. Maybe there's a connection there. Those of you who shit on the Misfits seem to be doing so more based on the personalities of the band members than the quality of what they produced. Sure, they were a bunch of cretins, and I doubt I'd want to hang out with any of them, but they never wrote a bad song. TSOL were good, but there's something a bit precious/pretentious about them that, coming from a bunch of OC jocks, is a bit of a turn off. With the Misfits, what you see is what you get: a bunch of knuckleheads obsessed with horror movies and comics who somehow managed to write a load of great songs.

this board seems to be too obsessed with the actual personalities of band members, their politics or their audience and why that "wrecked" the band for them.

I like both TSOL and the Misfits. Other than some very narrow common ground (the horror/death thing) on certain songs, I never though the two bands sounded anything alike and therefore wouldn't compare them.

One thing about the Misfits is that they were better on singles IMHO than on albums.

jnk, Tango & Michele are absolutely right. And TSOL were certainly SCARY CRIMINALS but never jocks. I don't think Jack & the others pumped any iron to be try to look like WWF Wrestlers. You're definitely confusing them with the Misfits. Who didn't write better songs than TSOL, either.

Sure, Jack Grisham is a scary dude vs Danzig seems like a tool, and there's no denying that TSOL were very creative, but Danzig could sing way better and the Misfits tunes just optimized what they had to work with. Misfits singles bury TSOL, imo. Albums might be weaker, but the singles were wonderful.

I'm not even much of a Misfits fan.

Get your vibe from Alice Cooper Band/KISS.
Get your vocals from Jim Morrison.
Get your music from the first three Ramones records
Get your lyrics from 70's Charlton horror comics.

On paper it's a good marketing formula.

You know what toe to toe match-up really shows their inadequacies?

Misfits vs The Damned.

I've never looked at it from this point of view... You made me like them even more :) No one could ever incorporate all those influences into music better than them.
By the way, their first logotype (the one with "The..." in front) has always looked better to me.

Love the Misfits (with Danzig) but between Misfits and T. S. O. L., I pick T. S. O. L.
Better song writing, more charismatic front man, better lyrics and Misfits never did such a brilliant record as Beneath the Shadows LP.

Thanks for posting.
This is just the reg version of Teenagers from the Horror Biz ep and then Static age from Legacy.
The original acetate of this is the Static age sessions version of Teenagers as well as Static age.

Here's the original mix of the 78 Static Age lp in case anyone wants to nerd out. I got this in 1988 from a one time friend of Glen and Jerry.
