Was it the Canadian band? I couldn't find the poster on the Gilman archive.

Other Canadian bands of this ilk of course was Death Sentence (although their first less-crossover album is a lot better) and Hype ...Life Is Hard Then You Die!

From seeing Death Sentence a number of times, I just don't think of them as metal at all, as they were so punk in a lifestyle sense. You are definitely right that the first 12" (not a pretty sight) is better. Definitely metal influence with a very punk attitude. The second LP is decent, more metal, but not as good as the first.

What about Inner Anger? Not really known much out of Western Canada, but put out a decent crossover 12".

I was in a record store yesterday and saw an Inner Anger record. I toyed with buying it, but didn't. I think they were from Kamloops, BC. Is it any good?

Death Sentence definitely went metal for the 2nd LP. You should hear the demo they did after that album. It was even more glam sounding and included a cover of Planet Claire!

Straw Dogs didn't work. None of them worked. Well, none except SSD - How we Rock. ... for most generic cover artwork from a once respected hardcore band :!:

I think I might've mentioned this once but on G.I.'s '87 tour, we seriously contemplated putting out a speed-metal album under the name, Mange. We's put a big skull on the cover because anything with a skull on it in the 80's sold. We knew we could pull it off musically & where I would have the demon vox - Pete could hit the mating call vox in the background. We thought it would be funny. And a few days later, we got bored with the idea so it never came to fruition.

Pretty sure it was.

For the 50,000th time, despite the shitty title and cover art, How We Rock is in no way a metal record. It's just Get It Away with more solos.

No hardcore band worked as a proper metal band. Thrash, crossover, metallic hardcore, etc... yes, but actual metal? No. The only band that ever came close was GISM. M.A.N. sounds like a really great Iron Maiden record with Sakevi on vocals.

Detetsation is overrated. The rest of their catalog that gets mostly ignored is great.

I would pick it up if the price is decent. I haven't listened to it in years, so I have no idea how it has held up. I keep my copy just because of the Canadian connection.

I would like to hear that Death Sentence demo. I always thought they would make a good rock/metal band, as they sure had a big attitude and liked to party.

Here's that Planet Claire cover from that 1989 demo available on this comp

As for Inner Anger, I did finally buy that record and put it up on my blog.

I love that one. I really wish it would get a proper release, but the band is apparently dead set against it. It's stupid, insane, and thrilling, just like a Void record should be.

D.R.I. were much better as a straight forward spastic thrash punk band. That 'Crossover' album is sub par. never liked it.

Even the kids that saw DRI open for Slayer on that Death records tour liked DRI better as a hardcore band.

I'd say Accused were my favorite crossover band. But they didn't really go metal. Poison Idea evolved spectacularly, if you consider Feel The Darkness metal. And I prefer the second AF record to Victim In Pain.

Blaine and Alex's current band Toe Tag having been playing shows as Accused A.D. (the Northwest's premiere Accused tribute band) and having doing that entire album for the 30th anniversary of it's release. They just announced they'll be playing NYC, NJ, Philly and Boston in September.

Poison Idea.

War All The Time and Feel The Darkness stand up to all their best material.

Agreed; I actually prefer the WATT/Ian MacKaye era to the earlier stuff.
